Minted: Trebor Works (Zine)

Written and illustrated by Maryam Huq, as part of Newham Heritage Month 2024.

Zines were printed and distributed across the borough’s libraries to share this important piece of heritage with Newham residents. I also planned and co-facilitated a workshop with Matthew Crampton (Author of ‘The Trebor Story’) in July 2024 to round off the project.

“To many passers-by and newer residents of Forest Gate, the Trebor Works building is simply a unique set of apartments on Katherine Road. However, at one point, this unassuming structure housed one of Britain’s largest manufacturers of sweets and confectionery. While the Trebor brand may no longer exist, over the past few months, I’ve delved into numerous records and resources to unveil the rich history of ‘Trebor’ and its humble origins in the area. My Newham Heritage Month project, titled ‘Minted,’ will delve into the inaugural factory’s pivotal role in the company’s success and its profound impact on the borough through art and illustrations.”- Researching the Trebor Works building
